Our Story

The idea behind Rural Commons came to us when we moved back to the Headwaters area from downtown Toronto. We had spent 10 years growing our careers in Advertising and Film & Television. We were passionate about our careers, but knew we wanted to ditch city life for country living. After spending years commuting to and from the city, we became more and more frustrated that it was nearly impossible to continue the career growth we were after in the city while truly benefiting from living in our beautiful rural community.

Co-working was always something we were interested in exploring further. We wanted to create an environment similar to the agencies we had loved working in, but closer to home. Then the pandemic hit and we felt the world was about to shift significantly towards more people working remote. With two littles in tow, we knew we weren’t the only ones who would benefit from having a space close to home, but set up with everything we needed to run our businesses.

This idea quickly spun into supporting all types of small businesses who have been hit hard over the last two years. We wanted to offer professional retail spaces with flexible lease terms. We wanted local artists to have a space to display and sell their work. Studio space to meet with clients. We wanted creatives to have open workshop spaces to host events for their communities. A space for us all to come together to support each other.

This space is for all of us, and we can’t wait to welcome you in.
